Corporate Social Responsibility

In its very essence, Trust Management Centre is all about developing people to achieve their fullest potential. We concern ourselves with the holistic growth of an individual and we believe that this growth is an essential building block to a more progressive and positive society. We understand that we can do more to take part in this responsibility. That is why aside from generating profits, we aim to reach as many people as we can through our corporate social responsibility.

A Moment of Charity:

Mr Kishore and the Badjao Kids

We usually develop common images of different types of people. With businessmen, we think that they are constantly surrounded with stacks of papers, meetings with their clients and staff and projections of their profits. They busy themselves most of the time with how much their business is earning.

For Mr Kishore he was able to put away this image in a moment of charity.

As Mr Kishore was walking down the streets of General Santos City, he saw a group of kids begging and selling brooms. Instead of the usual course of action of giving them loose change, he invited the kids for lunch. “I know that when I give them money it will be taken by someone else”, Mr Kishore recalls. He also remembers a hint of frustration welling up and scolding the kids’ parents for letting them out in the streets in such manner- looking very dirty, clothes tattered and torn.

He later discovered that the group of kids were Badjaos.

After their lunch, Mr Kishore bought them new clothes, toothbrushes and toothpastes. He remembers how one boy immediately took off his dirty clothes and changed in to the new shirt he received. The kids were very happy to receive their gifts from Mr Kishore. They knew that they own the gifts and no one will be taking it away from them.

“If I can just save one child, prevent him/ her from begging and later forced into vices, equip him/her with good education for himself/ herself and future children then the “poverty cycle” in his/her family will stop” Mr Kishore realized as he and the kids parted ways.

Sometimes it’s not all about making profits. Sometimes you have to throw away the labels and images and reach out to others as a person. As long as he can, Mr Kishore will continue to reach out his helping hand to whoever needs it.

Effective Feedback Skills for Teachers

A common challenging task that we usually don’t feel comfortable doing is to deliver feedback without hurting the other person’s feelings. Although this notion varies in different cultures, we are always careful with our choice of words in delivering our comments against a person. However, this may waver the effectiveness of our message and the things we want to change may not happen at all.

Last November  30, 2013, Trust Management Centre, in coordination with RD Foundation and Department of Education (Region XII), delivered a free seminar entitled ‘Effective Feedback Skills’ for the public school teachers of General Santos City. Mr Kishore Jethmal offered to conduct the workshop upon realizing  that it is important to let teachers learn this skill so they can positively motivate and lead their students.  Teachers have the responsibility of ensuring that they do not discourage their young charges with negative feedback.

The participants were able to learn how to handle situations involving problematic students where scoldings  are not an effective option. Instead, it is better to handle the situation calmly and lead the students to change positively. The participants also appreciated the practical activities that allowed them to apply the skills that they have learned in the seminar.

Hope Through Education

At Trust Management Centre, we believe that education is a privilege that every child should enjoy. Driven by this notion, we continually strive to open windows of opportunity to those who need it.One such beneficiary is Wendell Pesquera.

Wendell was diagnosed with Wilms tumor, a type of cancer in the kidneys that typically occurs in children, at age 4. Wendall’s mother, Criezel, found herself in difficulty in providing for her child’s treatment with the salary she received working as a cleaner for the company.Trust Management Centre extended its help by providing for Wendell’s education expenses. Since 2012, the company has been paying for Wendell’s tuition fees, school supplies and other miscellaneous expenses. This was the company’s way of alleviating Criezel’s  concern for other expenses. She remembers that Wendell would constantly ask his doctor when he can leave the hospital and start going back to school again. He had always enjoyed going to school and had dreams of becoming a banker when he grew up.

“Wendell was so happy because Mr. Kishore sponsored his education. He was so happy to receive bags and other school supplies from him”, Criezel recounts.Wendell is now recovering from his illness. Even though his diagnosis may have temporarily dimmed his hopes for the future, Trust Management Centre has given Wendell an opportunity to continue towards fulfilling his dreams.

Power of Negotiation:

An Essential Skill for Task Force Davao

When the safety and welfare of the people in the community are at stake, those who have the responsibility to protect it must be in their optimum state in their skills and abilities to successfully carry out their duties.

Mr. Kishore Jethmal imparted his time and expertise as a guest speaker on the topic ‘Power of Negotiation Skills’ to the members of Task Force Davao last February 4-6, 2014  at the Headquarters Task Force Davao, 10th Infantry (Agila) Division, Philippine Army, Sta. Ana Wharf, Brgy Leon Garcia, Davao City. This was an opportunity for the division to sharpen their skills and learn new ideas and approaches when negotiating.  The 1 hour free seminar taught the participants the essential concepts of negotiating. The seminar also included hands- on activities that helped the participants practice the skills they have learned.

“The seminar was informative and I learned that when you are negotiating it is important that you make the other party feel they also won” Col. Casiano Monilla said.

Spooks and Smiles: TMC Halloween Party for the Kids at the House of Hope

TMC brought a night of smiles and laughter last Halloween 2012 for the House of Hope, the shelter for young cancer patients in Southern Philippines Medical Center, Davao city. Everyone in the room was donned in whimsical costumes, brightly colored face-paints and energetic spirits.

The TMC staff enthusiastically initiated games for the kids, letting them stretch their muscles and imagination to win the prizes. It was a fun break for the two groups, the staff getting a time off from work and the kids not having to mind the sickness they had to bear.

Mr. Kishore Jethmal, Training Director and CEO of TMC, with his wife, Mdm. Geeta Advani, handed out gifts for the kids. The smiles that the kids showed were more than enough of a thank you for the whole TMC family.

Everyone partied the night away, enjoying the good food, lively music and cheerful company. The TMC family is certain that this night was an unforgettable event for the young patients, being able to lift their spirits and give them a fun time without having to think of the big C.
